CV Joint Repair
Cv Joint Repair in Houston, TX
CV joints are an essential component of a vehicles drivetrain. They allow power to be transferred to the drive wheels from the transmission. Not only do they provide power to the wheels, but their unique design allows them to accommodate for the up and down motion from the suspension; this is all done without backlash. At Neville's Auto Repair we recognize the importance of constant-velocity joints and can work with you to repair them if necessary.
Maintenance & Repair
Generally speaking, CV joints can last a very long time if their boot covers do not crack. They do not require regular maintenance, however, it is important to keep in mind that they should be inspected regularly for damage. If caught early, it is likely that the boot covers will be the only component needing to be replaced. If the damage is not caught early, you may end up needing to replace the entire joint and drive shaft.
Signs of CV joint damage include:
- Visible cracks in the rubber or plastic boot, usually accompanied by a grease leak
- A clicking or popping noise that occurs when you turn
- A clunking noise when shifting
- If badly-worn, the vehicle may even be completely disabled
If you believe you may have an issue with your CV joints and would like a professional opinion, then Neville's Auto Repair is here to help. Call today to make an appointment.
